Jeffrey Toobin is a staff writer who covers legal matters for The New Yorker, and an analyst for CNN. He is also a former federal prosecutor who worked on the Iran-Contra investigation. Toobin has never wanted to be a cable-news “shouter,” but the firing of the F.B.I. director, James Comey, has incensed him; Toobin sees the White House’s justifications for the firing as transparently “bogus,” and regards the President’s actions as an interference in law enforcement, an overreach that only the 2018 elections can remedy.
